My Favorite Baking Tools: 3 Simple Tools That Make Baking Easier

Favorite Baking Tools

I do a lot of baking around here, especially cookies, and over the years I’ve found a few favorite baking tools that make things so much easier. They’re not fancy pieces of equipment, but they’re the things I find myself reaching for again and again.

Some of my favorite tools are the ones that solve those little baking frustrations that used to drive me crazy. Uneven dough, cookies that are all different sizes, or trying to find the right measuring spoon in a drawer full of loose ones can make baking harder than it needs to be.

These three favorite baking tools have helped with exactly those kinds of things.

1. Adjustable Rolling Pin with Thickness Rings

You can see the adjustable rolling pin I use on Amazon here.

This rolling pin is easily one of my favorite baking tools because I’ve never been very good at rolling dough to an even thickness.

I would roll one side a little thinner, leave another part too thick, and then wonder why some cinnamon rolls baked faster than others.

This rolling pin takes the guesswork out of it.

It comes with removable rings that let you choose how thick you want your dough to be, from 2 mm up to 10 mm. Once you put the rings on the ends of the rolling pin, they help keep the rolling pin at the same height as you roll.

That means the dough actually comes out even.

I love that!

It’s especially helpful when I’m making cinnamon rolls because I don’t have to keep stopping and wondering if one section of dough is thicker than another. I can choose the thickness I want and let the rolling pin do the work.

If you’ve ever struggled to get evenly rolled dough, this is one of those simple tools that can make a surprisingly big difference.

2. Magnetic Measuring Cups and Spoons

You can see the magnetic measuring cup and spoon set on Amazon here.

Measuring cups and spoons are obviously something every baker needs, but I really like the idea of having them stay together instead of disappearing into different corners of the kitchen drawer.

This 17-piece set is stainless steel and includes magnetic measuring spoons that stack together, along with measuring cups and a leveler.

I also like that the measurements are marked on the tools, which makes it easy to grab the size you need.

When you’re baking something with a longer ingredient list, having everything organized and easy to find is such a small thing, but it makes the whole process go more smoothly.

That’s really what I look for in my favorite baking tools. I don’t need another gadget just because it’s cute. I want something that’s useful and makes a job I already do a little easier.

3. Etekcity Digital Kitchen Scale

You can see the Etekcity kitchen scale I use on Amazon here.

My kitchen scale has become especially useful with all of the giant bakery-style cookies I make.

When I’m making big cookies, I want them to be fairly uniform. If one cookie is much bigger than the others, they’re not going to bake at quite the same rate.

Instead of trying to eyeball every ball of cookie dough, I can put it on the scale and know exactly how much it weighs.

The Etekcity digital scale measures in grams and ounces, has a tare function, and can weigh up to 11 pounds. The tare function is especially handy because you can place a bowl or container on the scale, zero it out, and then weigh what’s inside without including the weight of the container.

For my bakery-style cookies, I usually make cookies that are about 5 ounces each, so having a scale makes portioning the dough much easier.

They also look so much nicer when they’re all close to the same size.

Of all my favorite baking tools, this is probably one of the most useful if you bake cookies often.

My Favorite Baking Tools Don’t Have to Be Complicated

I’ve learned that sometimes the simplest tools are the ones that make the biggest difference in the kitchen.

My adjustable rolling pin helps me get evenly rolled dough without constantly checking it. My measuring cups and spoons keep an everyday baking essential organized and easy to use. And my kitchen scale helps me make those big bakery-style cookies the same size so they bake more evenly.

None of these things are absolutely necessary to bake something delicious. People have been baking wonderful cookies, pies, and breads without them for generations.

They just make baking a little easier for me.

And that’s really what I want from the things I bring into my kitchen. I don’t want drawers and cupboards full of gadgets I never use. I’d rather have a handful of favorite baking tools that solve a real problem and earn their spot in my kitchen.

I’m sure I’ll be sharing more of my baking favorites as I think of the things I reach for most often. With as many cookies as I make around here, there are definitely a few more!

What baking tool do you reach for all the time that you’d immediately replace if something happened to it?

Making every house feel a little more like home.
