I had wanted a Vitamix for years. So when my husband finally surprised me with one for my birthday, I couldn’t wait to find out if it was really as good as I’d hoped. This Vitamix 5200 review is coming from someone who has put hers to good use, and I can tell you that it has completely lived up to my expectations.

I originally thought I’d use it for the usual blender things, but I’ve found so many more uses for it in my kitchen. I make homemade soups, frozen chocolate drinks, and a chocolate date sauce that I use in several different ways.
I’ve also been amazed by what it can do with ingredients like dates and whole apples. It gets them so smooth that I can use more of the whole food without worrying about pieces or textures I don’t want in the finished recipe.
It’s one of those kitchen appliances I waited a long time to own, and now I’d genuinely miss it if I didn’t have it.

Why My Vitamix 5200 Became One of My Favorite Finds
Before I owned one, I thought of a blender mostly as something you used for smoothies, frozen drinks, and the occasional recipe.
I didn’t realize how much more I would use a really powerful blender.
One of the biggest differences I’ve noticed is what it can do with ingredients that aren’t always easy to blend completely.
Dates are a perfect example. I use them to sweeten my homemade chocolate date sauce, and they disappear right into the mixture. I don’t end up with little pieces of dates at the bottom.
I can also blend an apple with the peel still on and get it so smooth that you’d never know the peel was there.
I really like being able to use ingredients this way. Sometimes I want to leave more of the whole food intact, but I don’t necessarily want to taste or feel every part of it in the finished recipe. The Vitamix lets me have both.
That’s something I didn’t really think about when I was wishing for one all those years, but it’s become one of the things I appreciate most about it.
What I Make in My Vitamix 5200

This is where my Vitamix really earns its place in my kitchen.
My Roasted Tomato Basil Soup is a perfect example. I can take all of those roasted ingredients and blend them into a beautifully smooth homemade soup.
Then there’s my Chocolate Date Sauce: My Rich Chocolate Drink Base, which is completely different.
This stuff is so good.
It’s sweetened with dates, and you really don’t miss the sugar. I like to whip up a batch and keep it on hand because I use it for more than just one thing.
I can turn it into hot chocolate, use it in my chocolate frozen drinks, and I’ve even used it in my dirty sodas.
I love recipes like that. I make one homemade base, put it in the refrigerator, and then have several different ways to use it.
I’ve also used my Vitamix for smoothies, fruits, vegetables, and other recipes where I want a really smooth texture.
I don’t have to look for reasons to pull it out. I just keep discovering that something I’m already making can be made easier with it.
What I Love About the Vitamix 5200

For such a powerful appliance, the Vitamix 5200 is actually pretty simple to use.
It has a large 64-ounce container and variable-speed control, so I can adjust the texture depending on what I’m making. There’s also a High setting when I want something especially smooth.
I actually like that it doesn’t have a bunch of complicated programs for me to figure out. I turn the dial and control it myself.
The blades are made from hardened stainless steel, and the motor is powerful enough to handle the kinds of ingredients I regularly put into it.
I also really appreciate the cleanup.
I don’t want a kitchen appliance that saves me time making dinner and then gives me another project when it’s time to clean it.
With my Vitamix, I can add warm water and a drop of dish soap and let the blender do most of the work. Vitamix recommends running it this way for about 30 to 60 seconds before rinsing.
If you’d like to learn more about the specifications, operating instructions, and care, you can read the official Vitamix 5200 information and getting-started guide.
The Vitamix 5200 also comes with a seven-year limited warranty, which I appreciate when we’re talking about an appliance at this price.
Is the Vitamix 5200 Worth the Money?
A Vitamix isn’t an inexpensive blender, and I think that’s probably the biggest thing to consider before buying one.
If you pull out your blender three times a year to make a milkshake, I don’t know that I’d tell you to spend this much money on one.
For someone who cooks regularly and would use it for soups, smoothies, sauces, frozen drinks, fruits, vegetables, and other recipes, I think the decision is very different.
That’s how I look at kitchen appliances in general.
An inexpensive appliance that sits untouched in a cupboard isn’t much of a bargain. I’d rather spend money on something that makes everyday cooking easier and actually gets used.
There are a couple of practical things to consider too.
It’s a powerful blender, so you’re going to hear it when it’s running. The noise hasn’t bothered me enough to outweigh what it can do.
The classic Vitamix 5200 is also fairly tall with the container in place. If you’re hoping to leave it assembled on your countertop, I’d measure the space underneath your cabinets before buying it.
For me, the usefulness has outweighed those drawbacks.
My Vitamix 5200 Review: Would I Buy It Again?

Absolutely.
I waited a long time to get one, and I’m so glad my husband finally surprised me with it for my birthday.
What I like most is that it isn’t an appliance that only does one job. I can use it to make a warm homemade vegetable soup one day and a frozen chocolate drink another day.
And somewhere in between, I might be blending dates into my chocolate sauce or tossing in an apple without bothering to peel it first.
That’s my kind of kitchen appliance.
I don’t want things sitting around my kitchen just taking up space. I want the things I own to make everyday cooking easier and help me make food my family enjoys.
My Vitamix 5200 does exactly that.
After wanting one for so many years, it has turned out to be one of my favorite finds of all.
What do you use your blender for the most? I’d love to know if there’s something I haven’t tried making in mine yet.
Making every house feel a little more like home.
